High Achiever Program

Vision:
To identify and recognize the High Achieving, Highly Able and Talented students from Year 7-12 and to design a program that will motivate, encourage and challenge these students to excel across all subject areas by means of curriculum differentiation, in-school and external activities, competitions and courses.

Selection Criteria and Recognition:
High achieving, highly able and talented students from Year 7-12 are identified through a rigorous process using Online Demand Testing in Literacy and Numeracy, NAPLAN results, teacher recommendations and end of semester academic reports.

Once selected, High Achievers from Year 7 to12 will be presented with an Academic Badge (Year 7-11) and an Academic Dream Catcher badge (Year 12) students. Students will also receive a High Achiever folder in which to build their academic portfolio.

An accurate and updated High Achiever list will be available to all Teachers on Sharepoint. This will ensure that teachers can meet the demands of the High Achievers by continuously challenging them through differentiation of the curriculum.

High Achiever students in the Junior School will continuously be encouraged and remain academically challenged through the High Achiever Mentoring Program, which links senior and junior High Achiever students. In the Senior School students will be linked with an adult mentor with whom they can liaise. Through the Students Access Monash program students will also receive tutoring across many subject areas from tertiary students as a support to their studies.

VCE subject selection at Year 9:
Year 9 High Achiever students will be provided with the opportunity to select a second VCE subject for their Year 10 studies. The selection process is rigorous to ensure that students selected will have the ability to meet the demands of a second VCE subject. Successful students will be able to complete two VCE Year 12 subjects by the end of Year 11, enabling them to apply to complete a Tertiary subject during their Year 12 studies.

The College maintains a very high academic expectation from all students. Students are consistently encouraged to ensure that they work to their full potential. The program is consistently reviewed by the High Achiever Committee to ensure that an effective and successful program is developed and maintained to sustain a very high academic standard.
